Oh hai! I’m on stay-cay!

I use the word “staycation” but I don’t particularly like it.  I also say “vacay” but mostly just in my own head.  There is something inside of me that wants to stick with what words we already have and not make up new ones.  That would be Castor speaking.  Pollux loves a new word, especially if no one else is using it.  Or a few people who I like are using it and everyone else looks at you kind of funny.  That’s fine too.  Sort of like the Vibram Five Fingers.  Most people just laugh at you, but the granny in Swingles got a real kick out of them.  (Get it? Kick?)

So here we are on vacay, and it’s a staycation.  I was feeling bad about the staycation because it says “we are broke” or “we have not taken the time to be creative about a vacation.”  Both of these things are true, but we do have the good fortune of living in a place that people travel from all over to come visit.  At least they do now.  Not so much when it was 20 degrees outside.  It was about 60 this morning, and crystal clear so I can see why people would come from all over.

But would they come here to cut my grass, do my grocery shopping, and balance my checkbook?  Probably not.  It’s tasks like those that keep me from wanting to stay home on vacation.  Staying home to do the taxes is just not any fun sounding.  Not if they are just looming there.  So, now they are no longer looming there.  Maybe this is what Sunday feels like for atheists, because I got lots of stuff done and it’s only 5:00.  Lawn mowed, larder full, and creditors fooled for another cycle.  Plus there is tomorrow with it’s terrifying stage of the Tour de France.

So, real quick because I know I’ve been going on about a pretty run of the mill day for a while now, I am finishing up training for the Grandfather Mountain Marathon this weekend.  Fun little five mile run this morning.  I’m taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the runs at a leisurely pace and a moderate distance.  The big challenge will be not to run too far or too fast.  This is not being quick is it?  My point is to say that you should expect little reportlets about this impending hurtfest for the next several days.  Now that’s something to look forward to, right?
