Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me

I think it’s kind of easy, in the age of autotune, to dismiss the genius of a band like Queen and the virtuosity of Freddy Mercury.  We just assume that it is done with smoke and mirrors, and that everything gets fixed in post-production.  Every Victoria’s Secret model is flawless and each note on Glee is pitch perfect.  Since we know that such a level of performance is not common, we assume that it is not real.

And a lot of the time it’s a safe assumption.  Except for Kurt, of course, those Glee kids are a bunch of hacks.  I’ve never seen a Victoria’s Secret model on the street (not that I’ve given up looking.)  That makes it a bit unsettling to see Freddy and the boys do something like play the hell out of “Bohemian Rhapsody” live.  Yeah, I mean the song from “Wayne’s World.”

I dare any artist performing today to try to take on that song.  Even if Josh Groben could hit the notes, could he absolutely control a stadium of 65,000 people?  I think not.  Watching someone so obviously talented and disciplined and using a tremendous ability up to and beyond its capacity is thrilling.  It makes me want to be spectacular too.
