“Lunatic,” as you well know, is derived from the Latin word for moon. The theory goes that the moon makes you crazy. I used to try to figure out if this were true for me. Given the real cause of my lunacy, it’s a shock that I do not have charts and graphs of the waxing and waning moon.
Apparently, this weekend we will be treated to a supermoon. Supermoons are like supertasters in that they are mearly enhanced forms of natural phenomena. Supermoons are not supernatural nor are they more than one moon. What they are are appearances of the moon when it is closest to the Earth. No matter what the Pope says, the orbit of the moon is lopsided.
Does that make me lopsided? I don’t think so. I can get lopsided all on my own. Perhaps I get help from heavenly bodies, but they are no more responsible for the orbit of my thoughts than the Pope. Which is to say that ultimately the actions I take which affect my thoughts are all my choosing.
