I used the word “mohel” once without knowing what it meant and boy was I embarrassed!

Ok, so next week is apparently “National Genital Integrity Awareness Week” here in the United States. Now, I think we were all aware that genitals have individuated consciousnesses; however, it is hard to believe that they have ever acted with integrity. It is also hard to believe that they will do so based on one week’s worth of educational and social events planned for the edification of their behavior.

Then again, I may have the thrust of this week’s mission all wrong. I have not googled “National Genital Integrity Awareness Week” because I fear my internet service provider tracks which pages I open. Let’s not mention the fact that Google knows where I am at all times. Really. And on a related note, just when is Google going to buy Amazon anyway? Maybe they are waiting to get through this next week with their genitals intact before they consummate the deal.

Which is, of course, the real point. I read about the upcoming celebration on the website of Ha’aretz, the Israeli newspaper. The week is meant to, among other things, raise awareness about male infant genital mutilation. Do we need to discuss further? I think we do not. Except to say that the folks who want to ban the practice are in … you guessed it: San Francisco. Don’t they just take the fun out of every little thing out there in California?
