DIY Baby!

For years, I have needed new headlights on tha bucket.  On dark and stormy nights, discerning a lane line could require extrasensory perception.  While this produced a gnawing sense that something needed to be done, losing one headlight completely meant something needed to be done now.  The other one could not be far behind.  So I went to the auto parts store, manual in hand, and got me some headlights.  The counter dude also sold me on some headlight lube for $1.  I’m not sure I needed the lube, but it was only a dollar.  Rarely does lube come so cheaply.

I got to work getting the old headlights out, which was relatively easy and something I had explored before.  These are all bulbs, mind you, and not the whole plastic thingamabob.  Having read up on the procedure on the intertubes, I knew to wear a pair of gloves to prevent my nasty oils from getting on the bulbs.  Funny, synthetic lube ok, my natural oils not ok.  I broke into the package, got the bulb out, and applied the lube.

The bulb then goes into a sockety thing that then goes into the big plastic thingamabob that is bolted onto the car.

All in all, the job was relatively easy to pull off, and I got to say lube a lot.  The only issue is that I did the job.  The English / History / PoliSci major did the job.  Something is bound to be installed poorly.  Except that last night, a dark and stormy night, I say the lane lines just fine.  Some poor schlub in the lane beside me was very eloquent about how he couldn’t see jack.  Time for him to get some bubs.  And some lube.
