Never forget

Between the ages of 3 and 5, my family lived with my grandmother (creatively named “Grandmother”) while a new house was being built for us. Yes, two years. Don’t ask, that’s not the point. The point is that there was a lot of trash left over from the construction. Being the 70’s, folks still weren’t all that up on the “environment” thing. They called it “ecology” and came out with television spot like this:

But the whole point was out of sight, out of mind. The trash that was under our deck — or in the cellar with the radon — didn’t count, even if it did not degrade. After only a few years, I was old enough to appreciate the trash. Many an hour was spent fantasizing about the woman of my dreams, as pictured on the Liquid Nails dispenser:

It may come as no surprise that this packaging was discontinued somewhere around the first Bush administration. You never forget your first marketing-director-induced crush, however, so the Liquid Nails girl has stuck in my mind low these many years. I was reminded of her when I saw this great video featuring homeboy Juan Holliday from the Music Video Asheville event. It may be time to do some caulking up in here:
