There was that time we went to go play pool after the funeral. The pool hall was in Green Hills and it was more of a game place than a seedy place. The seedy place was over in Melrose, and we would discover it soon enough. The game place had that hockey game and so video games as well as the pool table. We were pretty confident that nobody would question when we got back from a funeral. We were correct.
There was also the time in college when LeeJo and I went down to Charleston for the first time. I was such a nerd that I kind of asked permission from my professor. He looked at me like I was some sort of idiot for asking. Wasn’t that the point? It doesn’t fucking work if you are allowed to do it. It takes all the danger out.
It is liberating, no doubt. It’s also a little scary. What if you get caught? Many, many more of us are Jennifer Grey than are Matthew Broderick. Then again, Baby got her day too, so it comes around. The overriding less is: be cool.
