“There is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.” So says Hamlet, or some character in Hamlet or maybe another Shakespeare play but it is definitely Shakespeare. I can agree with that, but only up to a certain point. For instance: the current New Yorker has an article about the likelihood of an asteroid colliding with the Earth. ( In our lifetime? Smallish. At some point? Nearly certain, and catastrophic.) That would definitely be bad, and I don’t care to have a discussion about how it is only bad for us but is good for cockroaches.
I am not a cockroach. I am also not myself at the end of April, which is what has me worried at the moment. Late April is like a Near Earth Object bearing down on Early March Me. Except that total annihilation is by no means certain at this point. In reality, a lot of stage-setting work should come to fruition and hopefully in a very good way at the end of next month. Like Charlie Sheen, I should be all about winning now.
Although we know that young Charles is on something of a wingnut binge at the moment. Yes, we all want to win, but as he has so eloquently illustrated, we need to keep perspective on things. I will not always do all things in an exemplary way. I can do the best I can on any given day. Whether that is good or bad totally depends on my perspective. Just like Hamlet said. Or maybe that was Polonius.
